Looking for something a little off the beaten path to do for Valentine’s Day this year? Check out just a few of the many alternatives to your traditional dinner-and-a-movie routine:

  • The Nightowls Present Al Green, The Highball, 10PM-2AM
    Sing and dance the night away at The Highball with LOVE AND HAPPINESS: The Nightowls Present Al Green, as Austin’s 10-piece soul/Motown band pays tribute to the king of love songs.
  • Cabaret de Carmen, The North Door, 7:30PM
    Support local opera, local artists and two great charitable organizations at the North Door on Brushy Street. Buy your tickets today to see Cabaret de Carmen, a one-act opera that combines the “… beauty of Bizet’s music and the fire of raw human emotion.” You’ll enjoy a bit of culture, and 75% of the contributions raised beyond the show’s budget goal will be donated to Austin’s domestic violence shelter SafePlace, and to the Veteran’s Guitar Project.

    Enjoy a funny, sweet and emotional portrait of love as A.R. Gurney’s Pulitzer-nominated play, Love Letters, is presented at the Blanton Museum of Art as part of the museum’s Valentine’s Day Gala.
  • Mortified, the Valentine’s Edition!, Spiderhouse Ballroom, 7:30PM
    Laugh about life and love’s awkward moments as everyday people share their most embarrassing and real childhood moments by putting their old letters, journals, home movies and more on display in two Mortified, the Valentine’s Edition! shows, happening at the Spiderhouse Ballroom.
  • Valentine’s Singles Bash, Benji’s Cantina, 8PM
    Celebrate being single at the Valentine’s Singles Bash, hosted by Benji’s Cantina. The event features a live charity date auction in which 10 of Austin’s most eligible bachelors and bachelorettes will be auctioned off. Proceeds will benefit The Blood and Tissue Center of Austin.
  • Fetish: A Valentine’s Tryst, Marchesa Hall & Theatre, 7PM
    If you’re an adventurous type, head to the Marchesa Hall & Theatre for Fetish: A Valentine’s Tryst. The show will feature Texas’ finest aerial artists performing 17 death-defying, fetish-inspired scenes on chair, pole, lyra, silks, trapeze and aerial ropes.
  • Austin Influential Group’s The Secret Society Ball: La Bell Époque, Swan Dive, 9PM-1AM
    Travel back in time as you behold the music, dance and other pleasures of the Victorian Era at the Austin Influential Group’s Valentine’s Day Ball, The Secret Society Ball: La Belle Époque. The event will feature “ … can-cans, beautiful men and women of many talents and trades to dazzle and thrill you, along with music to dance the night away and delicious treats to moisten your palette and loosen your tongue!” Proceeds will benefit Austin Pets Alive.
  • Live Music, Various Venues
    They don’t call Austin the Live Music Capital of the World for nothing. Get your tickets now to see Bob Schneider and the Moonlight Orchestra, featuring the Tosca Strings, at the ACL Moody Theater; kick up your heels with Asleep at the Wheel at Luckenbach Texas; head to Lambert’s for a treat from indie-folk-americana duo Dawn & Hawkes; croon along to ‘80s love ballads with LC Rocks at Speakeasy;  or groove to nine-piece soul powerhouse Roxy Roca at a free show at Baker Street Pub & Grill. And that doesn’t even take into account the dozens of clubs that host live musical acts week in and week out!
  • Texas Rollersgirls Season Opener, The Blood Shed, 5PM
    Kick off the 2015 Texas Rollergirls season with a double-header, as the Honky Tonk Heartbreakers take on the Hustlers, and the Hotrod Honeys go up against the Hell Marys.
