It’s My Park Day! March 7th, 2015

Looking for a way to get some exercise and give back to our amazing city at the same time? Austin’s parks and greenbelts are two things that make our city so special. Help keep them in great shape by lending a hand on March 7 for “It’s My Park Day,” Austin’s biggest park volunteer day.

The Austin Parks Foundation is looking for volunteers to help with tree mulching, root collar clearing, habitat restoration such as invasive exotic plant removal or replanting natives, and trail maintenance. Last year, more than 3,000 volunteers gave around 10,000 collective hours to complete some 100 projects around the city. To put that in perspective, it would take five park maintenance employees working full-time an entire year to make such an impact—not to mention cost the city around a quarter of a million dollars!

Both individuals and groups can register to volunteer, although age restrictions apply; check out the Volunteer FAQ for details. You’ll also earn service hours for the day if you need them, and you can pick the park or project that most interests you. Supplies are provided, although you are welcome to bring your own gloves and tools if you have them!

At Blairfield Realty, we love our city and pride ourselves on being active members of the community. Hope to see you on the 7th!
