For many years, Allandale has been a highly sought after Austin neighborhood, both for its quiet, suburban feel and its proximity to downtown and the MoPac corridor. Located in north central Austin and bordered by West Anderson Lane to the north, 45th Street (from MoPac to the Shoal Creek waterway, and following the waterway to Hancock Drive) to the south, Burnet Road to the east and MoPac Expressway to the west, Allandale is an established neighborhood with older homes, mature trees and a friendly, close-knit vibe.

Allandale features 1940s and 1950s homes with large yards – a favorite among children and their parents – which contributes to its laid-back, family feel. Students in the neighborhood attend Gullett Elementary School, Lamar Middle School and McCallum High School, the latter two of which have acclaimed fine arts programs as well as strong regular academic programs. The neighborhood also has smaller ones – to two-bedroom places that are popular among professionals and empty-nesters; many of its residents have lived there for decades.

Allandale’s sense of community is embodied in its neighborhood association, which is one of the most active in the city. Established in 1973, the Allandale Neighborhood Association brings the neighborhood together through events such as the annual Fourth of July parade. Its members work diligently to “promote and protect the quality of life, safety, residential characteristics, and property values of the neighborhood.”

Amenities include the recently improved Beverly Sheffield Park, Northwest Recreation Center for indoor sports and activities, and a variety of dining and shopping options – both mainstay and new – on Burnet Road, which has undergone major development in recent years. Many Allandale residents and their families also enjoy living near the Shoal Creek Greenbelt, which runs through the neighborhood.
