At Blairfield Realty, we like to support the many local businesses that celebrate Austin’s flourishing art scene. One of our favorites is the Wally Workman Gallery, which we are happy to announce is celebrating its 35th anniversary with a show, happening now through August 29.
Just as Austin has grown and changed so dramatically over the years, so has the gallery. Located in a two-story, 100-year-old historic house in Austin’s art district, it has transitioned from a fledgling gallery that “could support art posters” back in 1980, to today representing 60 artists “with work ranging from landscapes to more process oriented color field studies to figurative work that comments upon and reflects our social climate.” As the gallery has grown, so has its clientele, which now includes not only a local base, but also regional and international collectors.
American Art Collector did a great write-up of the gallery and the anniversary show in the August issue of the magazine, and a sample of the works on display can be found on the gallery website. And for more information about the visual arts in our community and beyond, check out the spring/summer issue of aether, a semi-annual e-magazine that promotes the local creative scene. Then visit Art Austin to learn more about Austin’s many galleries.
Wally Workman Gallery is located at 1202 West 6th Street. It’s open Tuesday – Saturday, 10am to 5pm, and parking is available both in the front lot and the lot behind the gallery, which is accessed from the alley off Blanco and Harthan Street. The show runs through August 29.
