From Friday, October 21 to Sunday, October 23, Formula 1 will return for its fifth year at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) with The United States Grand Prix (USGP). The USGP is only Formula 1 race in America, and the COTA provides a great setting from which to view the action. Set on 1,500 acres just outside Austin’s downtown, the 3.41-mile racetrack takes advantage of the natural hilly landscape that surrounds it. The track features 20-turn, counterclockwise circuit, with an impressive 133-foot hill kicking off the first turn.
If you’ve never checked out the USGP, this would be a great year to start. Capping off the races will be musical guests Taylor Swift (Saturday) and The Weeknd (Sunday). They’ll be performing on the Festival Lawn area, and all ticketholders will have access to the concert for the day(s) on which their ticket is valid.
Funded entirely using private money, COTA is a significant contributor to the local economy. In addition to Formula 1, it has hosted X Games, MotoGP, the FIA World Endurance Championship and IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. And with the largest permanent outdoor amphitheater in Central Texas, the Austin360 Amphitheater, the COTA has also been host to a diverse group of musical guests, including Willie Nelson, Nine Inch Nails, Kanye West, Kenny Chesney, Maroon 5 and more.
Through increased tourism and annual operations, the Circuit’s economic impact to Central Texas is almost $1 billion. It continues to be a leader in environmental awareness and sustainability, and has helped make advances in solar car, racing, and consumer automotive technology as well as other educational and scientific fields.
