Anyone who’s lived in Austin since, well, ever has likely heard the phrase that has become a trademark (literally) of our fine city: Keep Austin Weird. On June 24, you’re invited to celebrate our collective weirdness with the Keep Austin Weird Festival + 5K!
The festival will take place from 4 – 9pm in Downtown Austin, with the race scheduled to begin at 6pm. And “race” may be a misnomer on this one: World Travel Guide calls it “A celebration of the city’s madness … and the slowest 3-mile race on the planet.” Runners are typically dressed in costumes that reflect the city’s carefree attitude, and the race includes 15 “fun stops” such as obstacle courses and slip and slides. There’s even a costume contest, with the grand prize winner getting a year’s worth of free Amy’s Ice Cream!
The event will also feature live music, food and fun for the whole family. For more information and to register, visit the event website.
