Live music abounds this summer on Barton Springs Road
One of the great pleasures of living in Austin is enjoying our city’s stellar live music offerings. Another is being outside on warm summer nights. Even better is being able to combine the two, and on special dates throughout the coming months, the place to be for outdoor concerts is Barton Springs Road.
Through mid-September, KGSR radio’s popular “Unplugged at the Grove” series will bring live acts to Shady Grove’s beloved outdoor patio every Thursday night. Beginning at 8pm, these popular events draw large all-ages crowds to the popular restaurant, which is located at 1624 Barton Springs Road. Get there early to grab a table or find a spot on the lawn. Artists tend toward roots, country and Americana, and this year’s lineup includes such stalwarts as Darden Smith, Kevin Russell and Eric Tessmer, along with notable up-and-comers including Sarah Jaffe, not to mention a special solo show by Rhett Miller of the Old 97’s. Check out the full lineup and get more information here.
And if one concert on Thursdays isn’t enough, just walk over to Uncle Billy’s just down the street. Honky Tonk Happy Hour runs from 6:30-8 every Thursday, bringing live bands and beer specials to help you get your night out started on the right track.
Of course, it wouldn’t be summer in Austin without the ever-popular Wednesday night Blues on the Green concert series, which is also sponsored by KGSR radio along with HEB. Blues on the Green is Austin’s largest free concert series and draws thousands to Zilker Park. Three shows remain (on June 14, July 12 and August 2), with the next show featuring Grupo Fantasma. So grab a blanket and head on down; just be sure to consider finding alternative transportation because traffic and parking can be a major headache. Visit the KGSR website for more details.
Summer is coming. Get ready to enjoy those warm Austin nights.
