Even if you didn’t make it to the official Zilker Holiday Tree Lighting ceremony on November 26, you can still take a spin under the tree and then head across Barton Springs Road for a stroll through the Austin Trail of Lights. Both of these beloved Austin traditions are not to be missed!
Visiting the Zilker Holiday Tree is always free. Now in its 52nd year, the 155-foot “tree” is built using one of Austin’s 17 historic moontowers, with 39 streamers festooned with more than 3,300 lights. It will be illuminated and standing proud through December 31.
The Trail of Lights is open from December 9 through December 23 and draws more than 400,000 visitors each year. The event, which kicked off in 1965, takes visitors on a winding 1.25-mile path through 40 displays and two million lights. It also features a Ferris wheel, carousel, live music, food from Austin’s favorite food trucks, and holiday activities for all ages. This year, eventgoers are asked to bring a can of food with them to Zilker Park as part of the effort to collect 25,000 meals for the Central Texas Food Bank. Thanks to the Trail of Lights Foundation, admission is free for at least half of the nights; see the calendar for details. The website also contains info about themed nights (U-T Night, Heroes Night, Movie Night), getting to and from the park, and more.
From all of us at Blairfield Realty, we hope your holidays are safe and full of the things and people you love most!
