The tiny home movement is alive and well, if current Austin-area development is any indication. Reservations are now being accepted on an 85-lot tiny-home community that’s currently under development on Old Manchaca Road, just 10 miles south of downtown. The project, called Constellation ATX, is scheduled to open on March 1 and will feature fully-furnished studio-size (up to 400-square-foot) homes.
Future residents may either bring a home they’ve already built, or they can commission one from Austin-based Kasita Inc. or Colorado-based Sprout Tiny Homes Inc. New homes will be priced in the $55,000 to $140,000 range.
Constellation TX residents will enjoy common spaces such as an outdoor firepit and BBQ, kitchen and laundry facilities, rooftop decks and hot tubs, and a clubhouse and other gathering areas throughout the property. They’ll also have access to a natural swimming pool and jogging trail, extra storage, onsite carsharing, and more. To schedule a tour or see complete list of amenities and property maps, visit the Constellation ATX website.
A second community, tentatively called Stage Coach, is scheduled to open in Kyle, TX, later this year and will feature around 400 tiny homes. Both communities tout sustainability not only through minimalist living, but also the use of renewable energy, rainwater capture, and landscaping with native plants.
Tiny homes aren’t for everyone, but the thought of living simply appeals to you, these new tiny home communities may be worth a look.
