If there were still any lingering doubts about Austin’s status on the culinary scene, they were dispelled after not one—but two—Austin restaurants received national acclaim in 2017. We wrote about one, Kemuri Tatsu-ya, back in January, after it made Bon Appetit’s Best New Restaurants in America 2017 Hot 10 list. The second, June’s All Day, was not only a Bon Appetit Top 50 Finalist, but also appeared on Food & Wine’s Restaurants of the Year 2017 list.
Located on South Congress and inspired by Parisian wine bars and Spanish tapas bars, June’s is open all day, as the name implies. With black-and-white checkered floors, cozy banquette seating, and a dog-friendly patio, it’s welcoming and cozy—the perfect spot to people watch and enjoy tunes from its vintage jukebox or a live DJ, if you’re there past 10pm on a Friday or Saturday night.
Serving up everything from breakfast chalupas and grab-and-go pastries and coffee in the morning, to a bistro menu for lunch and dinner, the food doesn’t disappoint. There are plenty of higher-end dishes to choose from, too, not to mention delicious pastries, inventive cocktails, craft beer, and more than 60 international wines by the bottle or glass.
The restaurant’s ambiance and quality should come as no surprise. June’s, run by its namesake and master sommelier, June Rodil, is the latest addition to McGuire Moorman Hospitality’s restaurant portfolio, which also includes Jeffrey’s (which it reimagined and renovated in 2012), Josephine House, Perla’s Oyster Bar, and several other popular Austin spots.
As an added bonus, the entire menu and all sparkling wine is 50 percent off from 4–6 p.m. daily. And on Sunday nights, June’s transforms into a pub serving English-style Indian dishes including garlic naan, fish saag, and Old Speckled Hen beer for only $5 a pint.
