Blues on the Green kicked off its summer season; be sure to catch the remaining shows
Here in the “Live Music Capital of the World,” music fans can find a concert—whether in a large venue or small club or coffeehouse—every night of the week. But when summer arrives, Austinites love to mix listening to live music with enjoying the warm nights, and no place captures that mix better than KGSR’s Blues on the Green series of monthly concerts.
Held on Zilker Park’s great lawn, the concert series attracts a wide cross-section of music lovers, offering a place for people of all ages and walks of life to mix, mingle and enjoy. And thanks to numerous local sponsors and the Austin Parks and Recreation Department, these concerts are free, offering an easy way to see prominent local artists as well as emerging acts.
You can bring in your own water, blankets, lawn, chairs, dogs on leashes and even children, so the whole family can enjoy Zilker Park’s grassy confines. Food and non-alcoholic beverages are also sold by numerous vendors, but remember that no alcohol, glass or Styrofoam, or smoking is allowed. Also, be sure to plan ahead for parking, and if you park in the adjacent neighborhoods, watch out for restricted areas to avoid getting towed. If the skies look cloudy, don’t fret because unless there is lightning and torrential rains, the concerts typically go on.
This year’s Wednesday concert series kicked off on May 23 and returns on June 13 when Bob Schneider headlines, with Superfonicos opening. Music starts at 8pm. The other two shows in this summer’s lineup will also be held July 18 and August 8. Performers will be announced later.
