Get ready to enjoy what is rapidly become an Austin fall tradition: the Waterloo Greenway’s Creek Show. Returning this year for 11 nights (November 7-17), this free event turns the banks of Waller Creek between 9th and 12th Streets into a canvas for six stunning illuminated art displays.
Launched in 2014 as a one-night event, the Creek Show has grown in both scope and popularity. Last year, some 50,000 people attended over the course of the event.
Running from 6-10pm each night, in addition to the art installations, the event includes the Creek Show Lounge, which will feature a variety of programming. There will be live music every night, plus a photo booth and food and beverage sellers. Visitors can also take advantage of special offers provided by nearby businesses in both the Red River Cultural District and Sixth Street Historic District.
Attendees are encouraged to start their walk at 9th and Red River and head north, which will bring them through Symphony Square, where music and activities are occurring. Note that parts of the walkway may not be ADM compliant and could also be difficult to navigate with a stroller. The Creek Show is presented by the Waterloo Greenway Conservancy, which is working to develop and beautify Waller Creek from Waterloo Park to Lady Bird Lake. In addition to business and tourist development, the project also includes the long-delayed Waller Creek Tunnel, which will reduce the impact of flooding along the creek and improve water quality.
