The man behind the famed Franklin Barbecue, James Beard Award-winning pit master Aaron Franklin, has opened Franklin Barbecue’s Tacos & Coffee Truck after announcing plans for the new venture more than a year ago. Now, hungry patrons can enjoy delicious breakfast tacos and coffee served up from the truck, which is located behind the restaurant at 900 E. 11th St.Â
There is a three-item minimum on each $4 taco, with fillings ranging from meat offerings such as chopped brisket a la plancha, chorizo, sausage patties, and bacon, to non-meat fillings including potatoes, eggs, cheese, refried beans, and guacamole. Coffee choices include a pour-over, drip coffee, and several espresso drinks, with the truck also serving hot tea, hot chocolate, locally-made Rambler sparkling water, and Mexican Coke. You may be asking, does Austin really need another taco truck? If the appetite for Franklin’s meats—which hasn’t seemed to wane since the restaurant’s opening in 2009—is any indication, our stomachs hereby give it a hearty stamp of approval.  Â
