The holiday season typically sees an uptick in volunteering and giving, but there are plenty of ways to stay involved all year. One great local organization that relies on year-round support is Art from the Streets, a free and open art studio serving Austin’s homeless community. For more than 25 years, this non-profit has provided a safe and welcoming place for Austin’s homeless and at-risk population to craft and sell original art. In addition to hosting an open studio, Art from the Streets also showcases artists’ work at an annual event and occasional pop-ups, with 95% of the proceeds going directly to the artist—as well as through online sales.
There are many ways to support Art from the Streets, including volunteering at the open studio, attending fundraisers, donating supplies, and of course, purchasing the artists’ work.
