For almost 40 years, Family Eldercare has played an important role in preventing the abuse, neglect, and financial exploitation of elders and adults with disabilities so they can live safely and as independently as possible—regardless of their income level. Each month, the organization serves more than 6,500 individuals and their caregivers through a variety of programs. Among its many services are training family caregivers who are caring for frail elders; providing counseling and guardianship services; and developing and carrying out plans for seniors and others who require assistance while continuing to live at home.
One easy way to get involved and support this organization is through Fans from Fans, Family Eldercare’s annual Summer Fan Drive event, happening June 14 at Shady Grove (1624 Barton Springs Road). Proceeds from this fun family event enable the organization to distribute fans to seniors, adults with disabilities, and families with children who don’t have or can’t afford AC. Since its start in 1990, the fan drive has turned into one of the largest efforts of its kind in the nation. In 2018 alone, Family Eldercare distributed over 7,600 fans across 14 counties and delivered its 100,000th fan! Come on out and donate a new box or oscillating fan or $20, and enjoy a breakfast taco and coffee, a photo booth, gaming station, live music, and more. There’s even an after-hours party at High 5 Anderson Lane for people who can’t make it downtown. You can learn more about the day’s schedule and get other details here.
