If the thought of Black Friday or Cyber Monday raises your stress level, why not focus your attention on something a bit more happiness-inducing instead? Skip the lines at the mall and mark your calendar for Tuesday, December 3: #GivingTuesday.
The purpose of the event, which takes place the Tuesday after Thanksgiving each year, is to bring people together around service in their community. Since its beginnings at New York’s 92nd Street Y in 2012, the movement has expanded to more than 150 countries across the world. Here in Austin, I Live Here I Give Here® got involved in 2017, and last year alone, Austin families, individuals, and businesses completed more than 4.1 million “actions for good” to commemorate the day.
There are several ways to get involved. Consider volunteering your time or making a financial contribution to a local organization that needs your help. Host a food or clothing drive. And spread the word about the movement on social media with the hashtags #GivingTuesday and #ILiveHereIGiveHere. Click here to learn more.
No battles with frenzied shopping crowds required.
