When you think of outdoor music events happening on the south bank of Austin’s Lady Bird Lake during the summertime, Blues on the Green probably comes to mind. But it’s not the only one! The Sound & Cinema series, co-sponsored by the Long Center, Do512 and Alamo Drafthouse, combines live bands, food trucks, and free, family-friendly movies on July 25, August 1, and August 15.
On July 25, enjoy a screening of the classic Grease and a performance by Huggy & the Feel Goodz. August 1 will pair the band Go Fever with a screening of Mean Girls. The series finale will be on August 15 with O Brother, Where Art Thou? and music from Rattlesnake Milk.
At 6pm, food trucks such as Peached Tortilla, Mama Fu’s, Newk’s, Austin’s Pizza, Rosarito, Moojo, Garbo’s, Uncle Louie G and Evil Wiener will start serving up tasty dinner options. Live music from some of Austin’s favorite local bands begins at 7:30pm, and once the sun goes down, the movies are screened on the Drafthouse’s huge inflatable screen.
So pack up your refillable water bottles and a blanket or lawn chair, and head down to the Long Center (located at 701 W Riverside Dr.). Don’t bring alcohol, outside food or weapons … The Long Center management says to expect bags and coolers to be checked. Pets are welcome as long as they are kept on a leash.
