Running for a great cause: The 28th annual Turkey Trot is coming soon!
Want to burn off some calories before your big Thanksgiving Day feast while raising money for a great local charity in the process? Consider participating in the 28th annual ThunderCloud Subs Turkey Trot!
Taking place on Thanksgiving Day morning (Thursday, November 22), the Turkey Trot features events for all ages and levels of fitness. For competitive runners, the main event is the timed five-mile run, though more casual participants can participate in either a five- or one-mile untimed run or walk. For the younger demographic, there is the popular and action-packed Kids K run/walk. Last year’s event drew an estimated 20,000 participants.
As well as the main events, there will also be live music, children’s activities, and plenty of post-run snacks for participants. Plus, there are prizes for top finishers, as well as a raffle presented by First Texas Honda. The grand prize for the raffle will be a brand-new Honda Accord Sedan EX CVT (or a $25,000 credit towards any new Honda). Other prizes include a $1000 YETI gift package and a two-night stay—plus $200 in hotel spending credit for food, beverages, and spa services—at the new Fairmont Austin.
ThunderCloud Subs donates all of the Turkey Trot proceeds to Caritas of Austin, a local non-profit working to prevent and end homelessness. Last year, the event raised $325,000 for Caritas and has raised a cumulative total of nearly $3.5 million over the years.
The 2018 Turkey Trot will take place in front of the Long Center (701 W Riverside Drive). The Kids K kicks things off at 8:45am, followed by the Timed 5 Mile at 9:30 and Untimed 5 Mile at 9:35. The Mile Walk/Run closes the event with a 9:50am start time. Visit the event website for more information, including registration, volunteer opportunities and how to purchase raffle tickets.
